Caerffili - Copi

Rhedadeg ltd and Mentrau Iaith Cymru (Welsh language initiatives) the Race’s organisers, are happy to announce grants of up to £750 to various organisations, following the success the third Race held between 4 – 6 July 2018 and raised more than £7,500.

The Race visited 15 towns and villages between Wrexham and Caerphilly, with the Language Baton uniting thousands of runners from all over Wales. Businesses, organisations, schools and individuals contributed £50 to sponsor a part of the Race. It is this profit that is now being shared through grants.

The Race will again be held in 2020, concentrating in raising awareness and pride in the Welsh language, promoting well being and strengthening our communities. Importance is also placed on the Ras yr iaith 2018 message, the importance to volunteer towards Welsh, which was part of being successful in receiving this years grant.

Information about Ras yr Iaith 2020 will be shared later this year.

Dr Gwenno Ffrancon, one of Tŷ’r Gwrhyd, Pontardawe’s managers said of being successful in receiving a grant this year:

“We are very happy to receive this grant from Ras yr Iaith towards establishing a Welsh skills club for young people at Ty’r Gwrhyd, the Welsh language centre for the Swansea and Neath valleys. Ty’r Gwrhyd was central in welcoming Ras yr iaith to Pontardawe last year, and the grant will make sure that the fun and enthusiasm over the language created with the Ras’ visit to this valley will continue.”
