Winners of Ras yr Iaith £4,000 Grant

Following the success of Ras yr Iaith in the summer of 2014, the organisers can now announce the winners of the £4,000 grant which was raised through sponsorship of the fun-run relay for the Welsh language.

The Ras was held on 20 June 2014 with supporters running or sponsoring 1km of the run which was held between Machynlleth and Cardigan. The Ras was supported by local businesses, schools, organisations and families. The grant was available to societies and groups from within the communities which supported the Ras – Ceredigion, Machynlleth and the Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire side of the Teifi. The intention of the grants is to promote the Welsh language.

“We were very pleased with the variety and ingenuity of the applications received. The highest sum available was £750 which has been awarded applications to some but not to all. We were particularly happy with the cross-section of applications in terms or types of events, geography and appeal to different sections of society. After all the hard work and fun of the Ras in June 2014 I’m sure the runners and sponsors will be happy with how the money raised has been ploughed back into promoting the Welsh language within the area,” said Siôn Jobbins, Chair of Ras yr Iaith.
